say that 5 times fast

Driving around the ritzy River Oaks part of town, I came across this gem:

I'm perplexed. I had to look up the word "esotericism." Also, isn't it ironic (don't you think?) that someone who can come up with a combination of words like "vernacular esotericism," can't spell "Hawaii" correctly? There are only a few reasons I can think of for the above display:

A) There is an underground cult movement among the uber-hip of this concrete jungle we call Houston, and they are passionate about limiting their vocabulary. I think.

B) It's summer, the rich children are bored, the weed is way better than it was when I was (ahem) young, and mattresses are the new texting medium of the season.

C) You're still stuck singing Alanis Morissette, cursing me right now, and can't be bothered with such trivial nonsense when it's like RAAAAIIIINNN....

D) I'm all wrong and you should tell me what you think the motive is.

Twenty Seven: much better than a square, a cube

I turned 27 two days ago, and to be honest, I wasn't so much feeling the birthday thing this year. We played it low key, met some friends at Star Pizza, one of my favorites, for beer & pizza. I am lucky to have friends like I do - I don't know how people put up with me sometimes, what with the bitching and moaning and overall carrying on. I think I'm over being depressed about my 20's marching on by at this point, and I'm thinking, "who cares about the number, how do I avoid wrinkles and sun spots?" (The answer to both is always SUNSCREEN of the HIGH SPF TYPE.) Also, I'd like to know how to avoid making ridiculous faces in pictures with nice people:

The good news is, my handy fiance bought me a camera for my birthday, the devilish dude, kind of a starter hobby type SLR, and I can't wait to start playing with it. Hopefully, in the future, I will have some good photos to post here! Obviously, of other people, because I can't seem to shake away a visage that looks like I'm about to chortle "Yo Ho Ho, and a bottle of rum!"

The Affair Continues...

My love for cupcakes, is well cataloged here, but today, a new place opened up around the corner from my place - Sugarbaby's Cupcake Boutique. It's like dying and going to sweet, sweet heaven. I tried several cupcakes (not whole ones, we split them, see I'm obstaining!)and then brought some other ones to my friends at work to try as well:

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut
Lemon Drop
Velvet Rouge
Carrot Cake
Banana Nut

So far, from the 3 I tried, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut is taking the prize, although all of them were very tasty. Conclusion: it's a must-try in Houston. Considering it was their first day open, they're still working out the logistical kinks, but I'm predicting that soon, there will be mobs of rabid people, pounding on the counters, demanding more cream-cheese icing.
